Celebrate International Riesling Day
On March 13, wine lovers around the world celebrate Riesling, a grape prized for its vibrancy, precision, and remarkable sense of place. At Culmina Estate Winery, International Riesling Day is an opportunity to highlight a wine that reflects both our philosophy and our land.
Our Decora Riesling is grown at Margaret’s Bench Vineyard, named in honour of our founder Don Triggs’ mother. Planted in 2011, this eight-acre site sits at 555 to 595 metres, making it the highest elevation of our three estate vineyards. With 1,280 degree days, (nearly identical to Dijon, France), the bench offers a cool climate ideal for aromatic varietals. Our Riesling is planted on stony soils, which stress the vines just enough to concentrate flavours, enhance tension, and lend the wine its distinctive mineral character and focused, vibrant structure.
In the glass, Decora opens with classic notes of honeycomb and quince, layered with bright citrus and a subtle petrol nuance. The palate is defined by vibrant yuzu, focused acidity, and a streak of granite minerality that carries through to a long, elegant finish. It is both refreshing and structured, drinking beautifully now while offering the potential to age gracefully.
Naturally food friendly, Decora pairs effortlessly with oysters, fresh seafood, or dishes with a touch of richness or spice.
This March 13, we invite you to raise a glass of Decora and celebrate the enduring character of Riesling.
